In this installment of our People of Everise Tenured Champions Edition, we're featuring Everise Senior Operations Manager Karla Montejo Gonzales! For over 8 years, Karla has been part of our growing Everise family in Guatemala and has contributed much to our success in the region. In our interview, Karla shares her personal background outside of Everise, how practicing taekwondo taught her lifelong disciplines, and how our people-first culture helped her excel in her career and stay with us.
In her early years, Karla grew up practicing martial arts while pursuing her studies. From the age of 15 to her early 20's, she was able to acquire her black belt as a 1st Dan in Taekwondo. Despite not practicing it as much nowadays, Karla believes that the disciplines and lessons she learned from Taekwondo continue to help her reach any goal she sets her mind to.
"It was like a second career, I was studying in school and it required a lot of effort and responsibility to achieve what I wanted, and it was to finish my dan, until I finally got my black belt."
Karla started out her Everise journey as a trainer/supervisor, and throughout her career, she experienced many challenges that helped her evolve as a professional and grow as an individual. Aside from her personal achievements, Karla credits her mentors and colleagues in her continued success in her career as a Senior Operations Manager.
"I have grown since I started as a trainer/supervisor. Then I became a senior supervisor, then an operations manager, and currently a senior operations manager. Professionally, I have learned a lot. I have great mentors here that have helped me develop myself and reach the goals that I have been establishing for myself."
One of the most important skills that Karla learned early on in her career with Everise is patience. Karla likes teaching and leading by example, and she believes that with the right push, anyone can achieve their potential. For Karla, having the patience to learn and understand people on a personal level helps her lead them to greater heights.
"I'm a very flexible person - I like to listen to them, but I also like to push my team to know what their standards are and what they can reach. Sometimes we don't know what we are able to reach until somebody pushes us, and I'd like to be that person that pushes you to get to the next level of what you can achieve."
True to our people-first culture, Karla considers her co-workers as family. She believes that treating each other as family members helps her develop genuine care for her fellow Champions, which motivates them to succeed and helps build others as well. For Karla, the best part of working in Everise is that everyone is always open to lend a helping hand to get the job done and achieve common goals.
"I do consider us as a family. I mentioned it several times, but we are definitely a family. We all push each other and there's no one from any department that doesn't tell you no. There's always somebody willing to help you and reach anything that you know you need. I think that's the best part of being here."
